History

Who we are:

Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club is an international group of united Firefighters who ride Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. Presently we have over 4,500 members and 160 chapters. We have members living in 49 states and 19 countries. As well as providing a network of contacts for similarly minded individuals, Wind & Fire MC has a secondary focus which is aimed at organising charity events to raise money for victims of fire related incidents. The club annually organizes over a dozen charity motorcycle events, which primarily benefit children - burn injured children, kids with cancer, needy kids at Christmas and children in the hospital.

Wind & Fire was founded in 1991 by Jerry Eibert, a 30 year veteran firefighter who lives in Santa Barbara California. On May 24, 1991 the W&F Patch was placed at "The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall" in Washington D.C. (Carried across the USA by motorcycle on Run For The Wall). December 8, 1991 first W&F Chapter in the USA " Santa Barbara Chapter".

The History of Fire Fighters UK.

Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club was introduced to the UK by the first member outside of the USA - Richard Shearing who joined the club in December 1992.  The club gained further members in the UK and became Chapter number 12 but remained a collection of outriders occasionally getting together at rallies. We supported burns camp attendees being treated in a hospital in Essex, England and became involved in other Fire Service related events.

Following Richard’s move abroad, Andy Coulson took up the leadership reins and contacted all UK members to arrange a meeting to discuss “what do you want from the club”.  This meeting was held on 25th February 2001 with the result that the collective opinion was that the principle of Fire Fighters riding Harleys and engaging in charitable activities was worth supporting. A formal structure and name for the chapter was required to ensure coordinated activities could be organised. It was at this time that a bottom rocker reading “FIREFIGHTERS-UK” was added to the Wind & Fire MC patch for members of Chapter 12.

The Chapter duly elected officers forming a committee that consisted of a Director, Treasurer, Publicity Officer and Charity Officer. Our charity efforts were agreed as concentrating on supporting the Children’s Ward (Peanut Ward) at East Grinstead Burns Unit and the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund. We produced regular newsletters to inform and encourage members and communications with both Belgian and French Wind & Fire Chapters were established.

In August 2001 we hosted the London Memorial Run to commemorate the disaster of 9/11 and all fallen Fire Fighters, with Wind & Fire members attending from both France and Belgium.

Since our creation as Chapter 12 in 1993 and our re-organisation as Chapter number 12 FIREFIGHTERS-UK in 2001 we have supported many events that have enabled us to contribute our skills as Fire Fighters, first aiders or just to show our bikes.  We also run an annual Custom Bike Show which provides our main income enabling us to support our two named charities. On the social side, we regularly attend events in the UK, Belgium and France including the annual Wind & Fire European Rally.

FIREFIGHTERS-UK maintain a healthy relationship with the local clubs in the Kent area, UK and Europe wide due to our neutral and non-political approach. We hope that this will continue. If you have any questions regarding the club or experience any issues with members, please get in touch with us and we will sort it where we can or advise where it is necessary.
